Must-Have Gouache Supplies
My must-have gouache supplies can be found here, which is also perfect if you want to paint & sip with a group!
You'd need these essentials:
- Gouache/Watercolor/Mixed-Media Paper
- Brushes
- Gouache
- Cup for water
- Rag/Towel to wipe off excess water with
- Paint palette for mixing paints in (you can just use a paper plate too!)
PAPER:
Any gouache, watercolor, or mixed-media paper will do. Canson is a favorite amongst many artists I've seen!

BRUSHES:
A good rule of thumb is to have three different brushes, with synthetic hairs: 1 small round brush, 1 bigger round brush, and 1 flat brush. Here are my current favorites:
Princeton Heritage watercolor 1/4” flat stroke brush

Princeton Heritage watercolor round 8 (larger)*

*I use the 10, but I couldn't find the link, although it provides options for size 8 or 12.
That being said, these brushes are on the pricier side. I haven't tried the Princeton Value Sets, but I've heard great things about them. Check them out here:

GOUACHE:

This is the size that I have and is definitely pricier, but the color payoff is incredible. There's a smaller size available, at 5ml tubes:
If you'd like a more cost-effective option, I've heard good things about Meeden:
Himi is fun to paint with since they're in these jelly cups, but it wouldn't be my first choice since I love my Holbein gouaches. Just make sure to stir with a poker/thick needle!
